We left I-10 freeway from Mecca and headed east to the canyon past a vineyard and acres of citrus trees and maybe a little spinach. The road is good although it claims on for 4wd vehicles. You'll notice alot of washouts that happened in the past with the flash flooding in the area. Alot of soft shoulders to with deep loose sand. As you begin to go to enter the canyon there is an array of colorful mountains. Many look like heavy plaster encased with different tones of agate and granite rock. It's a very quiet spot, and the sun casts lovely shadows across the floor of the canyon and tall pillars of stone. You'll see remnants of campfire pits but no litter. I think it's going to become one of our favorite spots
here in the desert for camping.
